Baja California or Lower California in English, is a peninsula in Mexico. Sitting below California across the border with the United States and separated from the rest of Mexico by the mouth of the mighty Colorado river.
On the west lies the great Pacific Ocean and on the east, the Sea of Cortez also known as the Gulf of California.
The peninsula has a wide variety in climate and geology, this owing to the Sierra de Juarez and Sierra de San Pedro Martir mountain ranges. On its north-west a “Mediterranean” climate can be found whereas further south deserts dominate the environment.
• Some of the many experiences waiting around Baja California are its rich wildlife, this includes the Grey whales and their nursing lagoons near the Pacific coast and in the Sea of Cortez.
• There are also incredible hikes to be made through the forests, canyons and across the many islands in the area.
• Not to forget the unique culture to immerse yourself in. Lose yourself in a maze of quaint streets and sun-drenched promenades of La Paz and Loreto.
