What you Need to Know
Where should I visit?
At almost twice the size of Australia, it's a good idea to learn a little about the various Antarctic regions before mapping out your trip, as each region has different attractions.
Antarctic Peninsula - below South America
See huge tabular icebergs, Gentoo, Adélie or Chinstrap penguins, whales and marine life. Optional extras such as Kayaking, snorkelling, snowshoeing, camping available on some departures for the more adventurous clients. Learn more about our Antarctic Peninsula expeditions.
South Georgia & the Falkland Islands - accessible from South America
Our travellers never regret including these islands. See over 100, 000 King Penguins on a single South Georgian beach, Elephant Seal colonies, and follow in Shackleton's footsteps. Ross Sea from New Zealand
The Ross Sea region of Antarctica is known for its stunning natural beauty and rich biodiversity. It is also steeped in history being the home of several historic sites including Scott's Hut and Shackleton's Hut. This remote tip of Antarctica has limited (January and February only) month-long departures from New Zealand. Learn more about our Ross Sea expeditions.
How long should I spend in Antarctica?
Time is often a major factor when planning an Antarctic adventure, and itineraries can range from 5-35 days.
• The express itineraries are about 5 to 8 days in length and involve flights from Punta Arenas, Chile to Antarctica. • The average Antarctic Peninsula cruise is 11 days. • To include the Falklands and South Georgia or to travel further south, choose a 19-day + voyage. • Ross Sea voyages are around 30 days and depart from New Zealand.
