See one of the world's most prestigious yacht races
The Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race is an iconic and much anticipated event on the global yacht racing calendar. Watch the fleet exit the Sydney heads, and follow the racing fleet through the Bass Strait, and finish by exploring Tasmania's pristine and world famous wilderness.
Please meet at either the Palm Beach Wharf or at the advised pre-cruise pickup locations in Sydney (found in your pre-cruise documentation). Guests will then transfer via Xplorer Tender from Palm Beach Wharf at 9:00am to board Coral Discoverer.
Depart at 10:00am, enjoy lunch as the ship positions off North Head, and toast the start of the Sydney–Hobart Yacht Race from our Xplorer Bar while watching the fleet set sail south.
Cruise past New South Wales coastal beauty while our guest lecturer provides commentary on race tactics and history. Crossing the Bass Strait offers a blend of presentations, and deck-side relaxation with ocean breezes and sea views.
Weather permitting, land at East Cove on Deal Island in the remote Kent Group. Explore the lighthouse, and swim or kayak in pristine, gin-clear waters, a serene encounter in untouched natural surroundings.
Explore Freycinet’s dramatic pink-granite peninsula and peaceful azure bays. Join an optional guided hike via the lookout or Isthmus Track to the iconic Wineglass Bay, widely regarded as one of the world’s most breathtaking beaches.
Visit Maria Island National Park, teeming with native wildlife including wombats, kangaroos, devils and wallabies. Walk through Darlington’s convict-era ruins and venture to the dramatic Painted and Fossil Cliffs for history and natural beauty.
Cruise past monumental formations like Tasman Arch, The Candlestick and Cathedral. Spot seals, dolphins or albatross before arriving in Hobart to ring in the New Year with drinks and fireworks over the Derwent River.
For 2027 departures: We will visit Adventure Bay on Bruny Island for a hike to Fluted Cape or Grass Point, then arrive in Hobart to celebrate New Year’s Eve with fireworks over the Derwent.
