Amazon Expedition Cruise
We highly recommend our 7-night Amazon River Expedition Cruise on the Aria Amazon where you may experience our most luxurious and comprehensive Amazon journey among the Amazon River’s three powerful tributaries: the Marañon, the Ucayali, and the Puinahua as well as several hidden black water lakes. Enjoy a tour by skiff of the Yacapana Isles, the “Isles of the Iguana”. Meet the gray and pink freshwater dolphins of the Yarapa River. Visit Madgalena Village and her giant water lilies and meet the Cocama Indians of Puerto Prado. Travel down the Ucayali River spotting monkeys and learn about the Amazon River headwaters. Probe deep within the Nauta Caño within Pacaya-Samiria Reserve, known as the mirrored forest, fish for piranha in Charo Lake and learn about sustainable resource management projects in Amazonia. • Low Water Season (June through October) vs. High Water Season (November Through May) If seeing glorious Amazon rainforest at its lushest and getting up close to lots of birds and mammals (and enjoying slightly cooler temperatures) sounds most attractive, then December to May might be your best choice. If jungle hikes and spotting exotic migratory birds perched on trees between flights across Amazonia appeals most to you, while still having the chance to see capuchin monkeys, kinkajou, and other mammals, and going on great fishing expeditions, you might be happier choosing the warmer, low water season.

We will meet at Iquitos International Airport then enjoy lunch together at a local restaurant or we will serve a box lunch en route, depending on the flight arrival time. The afternoon continues with an introduction to this historic city and the opportunity to meet an indigenous Amazon community. At 6:00pm we will board the ARIA AMAZON. Settle into your generously proportioned suite as you begin one of life’s greatest adventures. Following a routine safety drill and introduction to our naturalist guides, we gather for innovative Amazonian cuisine created by our Executive Chef Pedro Miguel Schiaffino, whose restaurant, Malabar, is the one of Lima’s top ranked dining experiences.
Aboard our comfortable skiffs, we set sail from the Amazon River to the Yarapa River. Keep your binoculars ready to spot tropical songbirds, black collared hawks and sloths. We’ll go fishing for Amazonia’s notoriously ferocious piranhas while our naturalist guides share stories of Lake Moringo. As the sun sets, we head off on an evening’s wildlife excursion with extraordinary stargazing on the black waters of Nauta Caño.
Rise with the sun for an early morning birdwatching along the Marañon River. After breakfast, we will take a jungle walk on the firm soil forest “Casual,” while looking for flora and fauna which include medicinal trees, insects, and poison dart frogs, and learning more about the different rainforest stratas. Later, swim, canoe or kayak in Yanayacu-Pucate River as we look for legendary pink river dolphins. Focus our hi-tech telescope on the night sky to identify the planets and constellations.
This morning, we will visit the local fresh market with your guides who can identify the day’s catch by the fishermen of Amazonia and the region’s exotic fruits. In the afternoon, we witness one of the great spectacles of the Southern Hemisphere, the birthplace of the Amazon River. Tonight you will meet the new passengers who have signed on for the four-night trip, as we start our journey together along the Marañon River.
By skiff, we explore the black waters of the Yanallpa River, disembarking to walk deep into the Amazonian rain forest. Later, we board the skiffs again to cruise along the El Dorado River for a dusk excursion in search of exotic nocturnal wildlife.
The rewards of our early start today are plentiful, including a breakfast picnic accompanied by jungle symphony and fishing along the black waters of the Pacaya River. After lunch, we venture out by skiffs on the Ucayali River alongside the banana boats transporting their jungle products to the port of Requena, keeping an eye out for pink river dolphins.
Choose to go jungle walking, canoeing, kayaking or swimming on the black water Yarapa or Clavero River in the morning. Visit a remote Amazonia village in the afternoon. This evening before dinner, we will gather to introduce you to some of the crewmembers whom you may not have met, working "behind the scenes" to ensure your countless exceptional experiences aboard the ARIA AMAZON.
At the Bellavista Nanay morning market along the Nanay River, sample exotic snacks from the Peruvian Amazon like ‘Suri’, Amazon caterpillars that are considered especially appetizing. Return to the ARIA for breakfast and to pack up. Before saying goodbye, we will make one last truly memorable stop at the Manatee Rescue Center, a very special kind of animal orphanage for Amazonian manatees. We will also visit San Juan craft market on route to the airport. Lunch or box lunch will be provided, depending on the exact departure flight time, which may vary. Other local activities may be included as well, according to the recommended flight schedule.
This itinerary is based on the High Water Season (November - May), it varies slightly for the Low Water Season (June – October). All itineraries are subject to change, due to weather and other conditions. All times indicated are approximate, and are also subject to change.

Architectural work by Noor Design anchors the ship in a clean, contemporary style layered with regional historical references, producing suites and public areas that feel deliberate rather than ornamental. Twenty design suites run along two accommodation decks, each with full-height windows, well-engineered climate control, and efficient storage layouts. Social spaces—plunge pool, gym, spa, lounges, games room, cinema—are spread across the top and lower decks to prevent crowding and to support uninterrupted downtime between field excursions.
Field operations follow a two-excursion-per-day structure led by trained naturalist guides in small groups, giving reliable wildlife viewing and contact with Amazonian communities. Culinary work by Pedro Miguel Schiaffino leans on local sourcing and Amazonian ingredients, executed through a disciplined Peruvian framework rather than novelty cooking. Safety and compliance sit at full ISM standards, and the overall configuration is designed to absorb the environmental, logistical, and operational demands of deep-river travel without compromising comfort.

Aria Amazon functions as a purpose-built expedition vessel with a narrow operational brief: deliver controlled, low-impact access to the Pacaya-Samiria Reserve without compromising guest comfort. Jordi Puig’s design keeps the structure efficient and deliberately restrained, using floor-to-ceiling glazing and hardwood interiors to frame the river rather than compete with it. Sixteen suites run across two accommodation decks, including four interconnecting options, each configured around climate stability, clean sightlines, and practical storage. The vessel carries a full environmental treatment system and fuel-efficient engines engineered to minimise emissions, setting a higher ecological benchmark than most regional operators.
Public spaces—indoor and outdoor lounges, massage room, observation deck, and a single outdoor jacuzzi—are arranged to absorb guest movement between excursions while keeping the ship quiet and uncluttered. Field operations follow a predictable rhythm: twice-daily small-group outings led by trained naturalists with capped group sizes for better wildlife encounters. Pedro Miguel Schiaffino’s rainforest-to-table programme mirrors that structure with disciplined Peruvian menus built around Amazonian produce and local sourcing. The result is a compact, efficient expedition platform with a clear identity: classic Amazon cruising with modern environmental engineering and consistent onboard execution.
