On this brand-new itinerary, PONANT invites you to dive into the history, culture and traditions of South-East Asia.

In Vietnam, you will board Le Lapérouse for an exceptional 10-day cruise sailing to 4 countries.

You will set sail from Ho Chi Minh City. Founded in the 17th century, this city formerly known as Saigon sits right near the Mekong Delta, a mythical river on which small, colourful boats throng on market days.

Your ship will then head south towards the Strait of Malacca, to introduce you to Malaysia’s most beautiful treasures.

Listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the colonial cities of Malacca and George Town (Penang) combine Malaysian and Chinese influences. They will reveal to you their many vestiges from the period when European domination was at its height, on this historic trade route that connected the East to the West.

From Port Klang, you will have the possibility of visiting Kuala Lumpur. In addition to the colonial buildings and the Chinatown and Little India districts, the Malaysian capital is also home to a number of futuristic constructions, the most renowned of these being the Petronas Towers.

Le Lapérouse will finally call at Singapore, where this Asian cruise will draw to an end. You will be seduced by the unique multicultural atmosphere of this city-State, a major commerce hub on the edges of the Orient.

Highlights

• On-board presence of singer-songwriter, musician and performer Robert Charlebois.

• A cruise to discover the cultural and architectural treasures of 4 countries in South-East Asia: Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore.

• UNESCO sites: Malacca and George Town (Penang), historic multicultural cities in the Strait of Malacca, marked by their Asian, Dutch, Portuguese and British heritage.

• Overnight in Singapore and tour of the city, areas and temples.

• Call in Port Klang, gateway to Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.

• Sail along the Saigon River.

• Lecturer on board, expert in the region and its culture.

Located near the Mekong delta, Ho Chi Minh-Ville is the largest city in Vietnam. It is both the historic heart and economic hub. Formerly Saigon, the city is an imposing avant-guard metropolis. You can admire its famous central post office and its emblematic Reunification Palace. From 95 years of French presence, the city has kept some remarkable monuments, like the Cathédrale Notre-Dame with its neo-Gothic façade built in 19th century red brick. You’ll succumb to the magic of this hectic city, where everything is about contrast, like the very brightly-coloured district of Cholon, Saigon’s “Chinatown”.
During your day at sea, make the most of the many services and activities on board. Treat yourself to a moment of relaxation in the spa or stay in shape in the fitness centre. Depending on the season, let yourself be tempted by the swimming pool or a spot of sunbathing. This day without a port of call will also be an opportunity to enjoy the conferences or shows proposed on board, to do some shopping in the boutique or to meet the PONANT photographers in their dedicated space. As for lovers of the open sea, they will be able to visit the ship’s upper deck to admire the spectacle of the waves and perhaps be lucky enough to observer marine species. A truly enchanted interlude, combining comfort, rest and entertainment.
Lying along the shores of the eponymous Strait, Malacca City has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A witness of the maritime traffic between Asia and the West, the city is inextricably linked to the trade of spices and silk. This cultural oasis will show you the history of a fascinating ancient civilization, the Baba Nyonya, the descendants of Chinese immigrants who married Malay women. In a Peranakan house in Chinatown, you will discover the Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum, which reproduces the interior of a traditional elegant home from the 19th century. The Baba Nyonya were wealthy traders who liked to indulge their taste for sumptuous furniture made from teak and mother-of-pearl, rare jewels and silk brocade.
The leading British trading post of the Far East in the 19th century, this tiny island has a unique atmosphere of both East and West. Known as the “Pearl of the East” in the past, for its many trades of spice, fabrics, and tin, Penang has become one of the most sought-after destinations in Malaysia, with its fine sandy beaches and its fabulous scenery. Here the traveller can observe South East Asia in a nutshell. Along the coast of Penang, admire jungle-covered slopes that plunge into the blue seas off golden beaches lined with palm trees. The homes on stilts of the Malaysian fisherman straddle the shoreline. The fragrance of frangipani trees, clove trees and nutmeg trees perfume the warm air.
Nicknamed the Garden City, Singapore stretches across Malaysia's southern-most region. Experience the vibrant hustle and bustle of this city-state for yourself at the Marina Bay. No too far away is the historic centre, offering up a unique smorgasbord of neoclassical buildings and contemporary towers. Decked out in topiary, the pavements of Orchard Road are also home to countless shopping centres. The colourful markets in Chinatown and Little India are the perfect opportunity to quell hunger pangs in a hawker centre, one of the city's traditional snack bars. Between the two districts, get a slice of history with a trip to the Raffles dock. It was here that Englishman Sir Raffles, the founder of the city, is said to have arrived one fateful day in January 1819.
