The October sun will warm your destinations on the HANSEATIC inspiration’s maiden voyage. And you couldn’t ask for a more scenic starting point: in Honfleur, charming half-timbered houses and bustling cafes set the tone for a cruise packed with culture and delights. A thrilling blend of savoir vivre and French history awaits you in the narrow alleys of Rouen, the city of 100 steeples*: travel through the centuries from the medieval old town to the Renaissance Le Gros-Horloge astronomical clock and the modern market hall. In Giverny, be delighted by Claude Monet’s garden*, the distinguished impressionist’s artistic oasis of peace.
In St. Peter Port on Guernsey, a labyrinth of terraces and gardens above the picturesque yacht harbour is just waiting to be discovered. After that, it’s time to explore the island in a classic bus*. Has this journey through time left you craving more? .
Then marvel at the old town and the Roman Tower of Hercules in La Coruna, Spain. Santiago de Compostela* has always attracted pilgrims from across the world. To this day, the mighty cathedral – said to contain the mortal remains of St James the Apostle – is steeped in mystical tales.
Explore the natural riches of the Islas Cies, provided that the authorities permit us to enter this protected landscape of dense pine forests, white sandy beaches and dramatic cliffs.
As you cruise on the Tagus, you will slowly draw closer to Lisbon. Marvel at the elegance of the city of light as the HANSEATIC inspiration sails under the 25 de Abril Bridge. A walk through the alleys of the old town* will reveal hidden architectural treasures. Want to rest your weary legs? The Gloria funicular will take you straight to the viewpoint in Bairro Alto. The “Garden of Eden” awaits you in Sintra and Quinta da Regaleira*: the estate enchants with its fantastic park of exotic plants, hidden ponds and grottoes. By night, the city famous for fado is truly magnificent, with its lights reflected by the river and an unforgettable view from the deck of the HANSEATIC inspiration.
Departure 17.00 hrs
In Portimao, Praia da Rocha beach is the perfect place to relax. Lagos and Cabo de Sao Vicente* also offer fascinating views: follow in the footsteps of Henry the Navigator, and enjoy an ocean panorama at a height of 75 m (246 ft).
From the former seafaring nation of Portugal, the HANSEATIC inspiration continues on to Morocco. In Casablanca, the hustle and bustle of La Corniche is a bewitching experience. The oriental atmosphere of Marrakech*, from Bahia Palace to the souk, will also draw you under its spell. Alternatively, marvel at sights such as the famous ruins of the Hassan Mosque in Rabat – the white royal city*.
Porto Santo is a paradise for hikers and nature lovers. An island tour* will reveal many facets of the unique landscape. The sandy beach spanning 9 km (5.5 mi.) is just one example of its idyllic beauty. Go for a hike on the Atlantic island* to the Pico do Castelo and enjoy spectacular views.
More wonderful sights await you in Funchal on the island of Madeira. Where pirates made trouble in days gone by, you will be greeted by a modern city of colourful alleys and towering inland mountains. The island’s interior is best explored on a levada hike* along the stone irrigation system before the balmy evening brings your cruise of a lifetime to its conclusion. The HANSEATIC inspiration will stay here overnight, and you can choose between an evening tukxi ride through Funchal* or strolling the alleys and enjoying a drink in one of the atmospheric bars. Whatever you decide, the unforgettable experiences of this maiden voyage will set your pulse racing for years to come, when you remember that you were there!
