Australasia

The Australasian eco-zone (including Australia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and areas of Indonesia) possesses many unique plants & animals living in a wide variety of climatic conditions.

'Australia' with its desert centre is bordered by some beautiful green “fringes”, as well as some stunning coastline, where diverse creatures benefit from the more favourable conditions.

The vast expanses of thick tropical rainforest in 'Papua New Guinea' are home to a superb natural diversity, (including over 3,000 kinds of orchids, and the world’s largest butterfly), as well a colourful, vibrant mix of indigenous cultures.

'New Zealand', part of the ancient continent of Godwanaland, possesses many fascinating endemic species and some truly dramatic volcanic scenery. Its various bio-regions range from the tropical north to southern tussockland, and its surrounding waters support unparalleled biodiversity.

The 'Subantarctic Islands' are recognized as one of the worlds' great biodiversity “hotspots” and a region for floralistic diversity. They are home to 40% of the worlds albatross species and 50% of the worlds penguin species. Twenty one species of petrels, prions, and shearwaters breed on these islands while there are at least 35 endemic vascular plant species.
