Highlights

• Havana: On the second day of our visit to Old Havana, we'll move away from Old Havana's fortifications to visit some of the more artistic buildings in the area. Gorgeous churches and grand theaters await. The Museum of the Revolution exhibits are largely devoted to the period of the revolutionary war of the 1950s and to the country's post-1959 history.

• Isla de la Juventud: Discover the Parque Nacional Punta Frances, a national park covering 6,079 acres on the southwest tip of the island. The main beach is called Playa El Frances, where coral reef formations and marine turtles are visible from just offshore and starfish adorn the ocean bottom.

• Cienfuegos: Founded in 1819, Cienfuegos was initially settled by immigrants of French origin. The Historic Centre of Ceinfuegos was named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, due to the geometric regularity of the city's layout. Inspired by Spanish Enlightenment, masterful iron metalwork is present in the railings and fences of the various buildings. This historic area is an excellent exhibit of top notch urban planning.

• Trinidad: Plaza Mayor in Trinidad, Cuba is the historic center of the town. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1988, the building surrounding the central square date from the 18th and 19 centuries. These building include the Church of Holy Trinity, the House of Conspirators, Burnet Palace, and the museum of Guamuhaya Archaeology.

• Alejandro de Humboldt National Park: Visit the park that is one of the most important sites in the Western Hemisphere a large variety of ecosystems. Here you'll find flora and fauna not located anywhere else in the world due to the unique evolutionary conditions.

• Holguin is one of the prettiest cities you'll find in all of Cuba. The best view of the city is located on top of the Hill of Cross. Here, you'll be able to see all of Holguin's plazas, as well as the coastline that Christopher Columbus once called "the most beautiful land human eyes have ever seen".

Southern Florida is a vibrant region with a medley of cultures. Take in colorful art deco architecture and its historic neighborhood communities. You’ll be astounded by everything there is to do, from discovering Coconut Grove’s lush vegetation to visiting local cafes and cigar shops. Once you’ve experienced South Florida’s beauty and energy, you’ll discover why the region is known as the cruise capital of the world.
The colorful capital of Cuba, Havana is a mesmerizing city with beautiful colonial edifices and a dramatic coastline. The core of the city is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Havana. Known for it’s architecturally impressive plazas and outstanding series of fortifications, Old Havana displays Cuban Culture at it’s finest. Old Havana’s five plazas are home to churches, palaces, castles, monuments and markets that come together to create one of the most impressive historical city centers in the Caribbean basin. The complex defenses that once held off pirates are some of the oldest and largest colonial fortifications in the Americas, such as Castillo de la Real Fuerza which began construction in 1558.
The capital of Havana is far too interesting to see it all in just one day! We’ll spend our second day continuing to explore everything that makes Havana one of the greatest capitals in the Caribbean Basin. Catedral de San Cristóbal is one of the most beautiful churches in Havana. Plaza de Armas is where military drills once took place in the 16th century. Gran Teatro de la Havana, the Great Theater of Havana is famous for particularly for the acclaimed National Ballet of Cuba.
The largest of Cuba’s subsidiary islands, Isla de la Juventud is rich in both beauty and pirate tales. Called Isla del Tesoro in the 17th century, the tales of pirate treasure buried here was the inspiration for the Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure novel Treasure Island. One of the Island’s main draws is the Parque Nacional Punta Frances, a national park covering 6,079 acres on the southwest tip of the island. The main beach is called Playa El Frances, where coral reef formations and marine turtles are visible from just offshore and starfish adorn the ocean bottom. From there, travel along the coastal road to the tiny seaside community of Cocodrilo, originally settled by turtle hunters from the Cayman Islands. The town offers magnificent views of a rocky coastline dotted surrounded by crystal-blue waters.
Nicknamed “La Perla del Sur” (Pearl of the South), Cienfuegos is a charming community ideally situated along the southern coast of Cuba. Originally settled by French immigrants in 1819, Cienfuegos is Spanish meaning “one hundred fires”. Over the years, this picturesque city grew to become one of Cuba’s chief seaports used for trade. Exports included local sugar, tobacco, and coffee. Popular destinations include Casitillo de Jaqua, a solid limestone fortress built by King Philip V of Spain to protect the area from Caribbean pirates in 1742, and Jardín Botánico de Cienfuegos (Cienfuegos Province Botanical Garden), which is home to an extensive collection of tropical plants and exotic garden botanicals.
Located in South Central Cuba, between the mountains of the Escambray Range and the Caribbean Sea, the town of Trinidad is a well-preserved representation of classic Cuba. Founded in 1514, the town is lined with cobbled streets, neoclassical buildings, and exquisite wrought iron railings. Here visitors can discover the Museum of Colonial Architecture, which features a large collection of architectural decorations and offers a guided tour of the historic streets of Trinidad. In addition, guests can visit Museo Romantico (Romantic Museum), which overlooks the main square and features a brilliant exhibition of romantic style porcelain, glass, and paintings.
Located in the foothills of a 14th-century copper mine you’ll find, Sierra Maestra is the country’s single most important pilgrimage site. Here the Cuban faithful come to El Sanctuario de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad del Cobre, a unique triple dome church that was built in 1927. This church has become a shrine for Cuban people who come on pilgrimages to pay their respects to the Virgen de la Caridad (Virgin of Charity). Cloaked in a golden robe, the statue is said to offer protection to the people of Cuba. In 1998 the Pope visited and blessed the shrine, calling the Virgin “La Reina de los Cubanos” (Queen of Cubans), and donated a rosary and crown.
The second largest city in Cuba after Havana, Santiago de Cuba is a gleaming cultural capital lying on the Santiago de Cuba Bay with the towering Sierra Maestra Mountains providing the perfect backdrop. The city’s close proximity to Jamaica and other Caribbean isles has created an extremely diverse metropolis unlike any other Cuban city. The mix of Cuban and Caribbean culture blends delightfully and can be seen throughout its art and architecture, heard in its music, and tasted in its cuisine. The San Pedro de la Roca del Morro Castle located in Santiago de Cuba is one of Cuba’s several UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and has guarded the entrance to the Santiago de Cuba Bay since 1638.
Parque Baconao is an 80,060-acre park that contains over 6000 species of plant life. The popular destination offers visitors a variety of activities including, hiking, swimming, and fishing. Inside the park you’ll find museums that highlight the various battles that have taken place over the years and the Valle de la Prehistoria, which depicts prehistoric life complete with life-sized dinosaurs. In 1987, UNESCO declared Parque Baconao a World Heritage Biosphere Reserve.
Your Cuba Cultural Voyage will return to Miami / Ft. Lauderdale for the end of your journey. Discuss your journey with new friends and reflect upon all of the wonderful things you have learned about the Cuban people and their culture as we set sail through the Florida Straight to return to the United States.
Enjoy breakfast aboard the Pearl Mist as we return to port in Miami / Ft. Lauderdale. You will arrive in Florida with a new perspective of Cuba and memories of several UNESCO World Heritage Sites that will last a lifetime. If you were unable to explore the vibrant Miami / Ft. Lauderdale region before embarking, or would just like a second day to see it all, your Cruise Director will help you make the most of your day in South Florida before the return trip home.
