Be met at the airport and be transferred to your small ship. This evening, enjoy a Welcome Dinner.
In the Finnish town of Mariehamn, you may like to embark on a historic tour, seeing the 18th-century wooden houses, the open-air Jan Karlsgården Museum and the fortress ruins of Bomarsund. Alternatively, take a coastal nature walk, admiring the wildflowers along the way. Later, sail through the 20,000 islands of the Turku archipelago.
Perhaps enjoy a tour of Helsinki, including Senate Square and Mannerheimintie as well as a photo stop at the Olympic Stadium. Otherwise, explore Suomelinna, a World Heritage-listed sea fortress that occupies six small islands.
Embark upon a city tour, including the impressive 18th-century Peter and Paul Cathedral and St Isaac’s Cathedral. Discover the wonders of the Baroque-style State Hermitage Museum. Tonight, be treated to an elegant evening at the Russian ballet at the prestigious Hermitage Theatre.
Visit the opulent Catherine Palace before boarding a hydrofoil for a journey down the Neva River to Peterhof Park and Palace. Stroll the Lower Park, and see the Grand Cascade and the Grand Palace.
In Tallinn, visit Dome Hill, the Cathedral of Saint Mary the Virgin, the Town Hall Square, the Rotermann Quarter and Freedom Square. Otherwise, perhaps embark on a more active hike with your Expedition Team, or partake in a bicycle tour.
Today on Saaremaa Island, enjoy a visit to an Estonian farmhouse for a cooking lesson and lunch with local wine. Alternatively, visit the town of Kuressaare or take a guided nature tour of the island.
Select from two options in Riga, the Latvian capital. Perhaps wander the streets of the historic centre, where the architecture reflects styles from all periods. Visit the Gothic-style St Peter’s Church and admire the stunning views from the observation platform. Alternatively, embark on a kayaking journey through the city’s stunning network of canals.
Arrive on Gotland Island today and be greeted by the World Heritage-listed walled town of Visby. Perhaps enjoy a tour taking in the Kruttornet, a 12th-century tower, as well as the Botanical Gardens. Or head to Graute Farm to learn about life on a local sheep farm. Then sample saffron pancakes and visit the Old Town.
Founded in 1252, Klaipeda was almost destroyed during World War II. Here, perhaps set off on a sightseeing tour including the Martynas Mazvydas Sculpture Park, home to more than 180 works of art. Alternatively, discover the Plokstine nuclear missile launch site and visit the Cold War Museum.
Today visit Christianso Island and choose from three walking tours. Perhaps learn about everyday life on the island; discover the history of the island’s fortress; or embark on a nature walk. Later, arrive on Bornholm Island and traverse the lush countryside for an afternoon of gourmet delights. Taste strawberry wine, visit a beautiful farm and enjoy a beer tasting.
Enjoy a sightseeing tour in the medieval German city of Wismar today, before setting out for Schwerin to visit one of Germany’s most decorative castles. Then, following a relaxing lake cruise, visit the grand residence of the former Dukes of Mecklenburg. Take in the lovely paintings and admire intricate wooden carvings in this castle museum. Later, return to the ship for lunch followed by time at leisure to further explore the cobbled streets and picturesque old harbour of Wismar.
Begin your transit of the Kiel Canal this morning. Finished in 1914, this 98-kilometre canal cuts through the German state of Schleswig-Holstein linking the Baltic Sea to the North Sea at Brunsbüttel to the Kiel-Holtenau. With the afternoon to relax on board, perhaps attend a lecture on the region from your Expedition Team.
Arrive in the Belgian port of Ostend for your excursion to Bruges. Enjoy a tour of this delightful canal-crossed city before returning to your vessel.
Disembark in Tilbury, then be transferred to Heathrow airport.
