Small Ship Cruising for Big Adventures

Baltic Beauty aboard Island Sky

Baltic 2

The MS Island Sky makes cruising the Baltic appealing for many reasons.  Visiting seven countries in thirteen days would certainly be challenging on a land-based adventure, and the smaller sized ship provides an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming.

Riga is an absolute feast for the eyes with its stunning Art Nouveau architecture – one beautiful building after the other - all in shades of yellow, blue, pink and cream with the most ornate decorations – architraves, friezes, columns and window frames.  Tallinn, a favourite for many of the passengers, is a wonderful medieval city with steep cobbled streets, turrets, towers and church spires at every turn.

A high point of the 13-day cruise certainly must be St Petersburg, with a luxurious three full days to explore, including a visit to Pushkin to see Catherine’s Palace – each room literally dripping with gold, marble and crystal. An optional excursion to the ballet in the evening at the Hermitage Theatre is a must-do. A special ‘early’ entry into the Hermitage Museum allows a good chance to view the incredible collections of art before larger cruise ship passengers arrive.

Once in Helsinki the MS Island Sky docks right in the heart of downtown, where usually only the private yachts are moored.  With a whole day to explore there is the freedom to come and go from the ship as you please after the included group sightseeing.  It would be hard to beat the views sailing into stunning Stockholm – with its tiny islands and bays and the ship docked in the lively waterfront area, minutes away from major sites.

From the warm welcome on board to the spacious suite, the MS Island Sky is the ideal mode of transport for visiting this enchanting part of the world.  Combining this small ship with the delights of the Baltic is truly a perfect match.

Summer in the Cities of the Baltic departs 21 June 2013 and cabins start from £4695.
